Travellers usually stay at Windsor Motel for its location close to the Richmond RAAF Base. But the town where it's found is considered a suburb on the outskirts of Sydney's metropolitan area, albeit not your typical cookie-cutter residential area. Exhibiting a small-town charm, it's also a great place for a holiday. Here's what you can do here:

1. Visit the town's numerous historical attractions.
As one of the oldest British settlements on the continent, Windsor has many heritage buildings scattered throughout the town. These include Howe House, built in 1820 and an example of accommodation in Windsor during its early days. Another attraction is St. Matthew's Church, considered the finest work of architect and convict Francis Greenway. And for a great introduction to the area's history, visit the Hawkesbury Regional Museum, which features exhibits on the Darug aborigines.

2. Go on a paddlewheeler cruise.
For a unique historical experience, enjoy a cruise the way they did it in the 1800s — by riding a paddle wheel boat. This will take travellers on a leisurely trip down the Hawkesbury River, where they get to savour the fresh countryside air. First-rate, freshly prepared meals are also served on board, while live music serenade tourists.

3. Enjoy various activities at the town's many parks.
It's not just all about historical places near the motel. Windsor town's many green spaces are also a short walk away, and here, travellers can enjoy a number of fun activities. These include Governor Philip Park, which has shady picnic and barbecue areas, fishing spots, and river access for those who want to try out water sports. To the west is Howe Park, which offers a viewing deck and several tables meant for backgammon or chess. Meanwhile, located across the river is Macquarie Park with its small, sandy beach. The nearby Deerubbun, McQuade, and Ansell Parks are also great spots to just rest and relax.

4. Play a round of golf.
If you're looking for a different kind of green space, then head over to Rum Corps Barracks Golf Club for a game. It offers a 9-hole course and a first-class driving range, plus golf lessons for kids every Sunday. Don't want to bring any equipment with you? Then just rent clubs, pull buggies, and even a motorised cart at its pro shop.

5. Shop at the Windsor Craft Market.
Open every Sunday, this street market is not only a great place to buy handicrafts for souvenirs. Here, you can get Hawkesbury's freshest produce — such as corn, strawberries, pumpkin, zucchini, and even honey — straight from the farmers themselves.

With the many attractions and activities in this town, Windsor Motel is also a great choice for a quick getaway from the city.
